LANGUAGE Refreshing
and enhancing
There are so many excellent on line resources for learners of English (and they are free!) that it is extremely difficult to decide which are best and which to choose. I have tried to select some of those I found most appropriate. But consider the following are only a tiny portion of the wealth you will find on the Internet. Search well, and if in doubt how to search and what to select consult Ester Grassian´s Thinking Critically about World Wide Web Resources you can get at : http://www.library.ucla.edu/libraries/college/instruct/web/critical.htm and Robert Harris´s Evaluating Internet Research Sources at : http://www.vanguard.edu/rharris/evalu8it.htm. The rest is practice and challenge. Below you will find some good starting points for exploring language and language related resources, English grammar, tests, useful FAQ with details, quizzes and grammar questions and answers, hints, explanations, writing skills, punctuation, online newspapers and dictionaries and glossaries , a virtual environment, where to practice English while sharing ideas and experiences with other learners of English: you can even expect feedback from generous tutors. Try to choose well the site which suits your need best. Always search for best quality and good style concise, clear and simple. Establish priorities and ask yourself a) what do I know already? b) What am I looking for in this source, what do I think I need? c) What is useful or different in this source, given my existing knowledge and my interests? Enjoy your hunt and your learning! Learn, refresh, discover, share and let me know! RESOURCES: Writing Labs http://owl.english.purdue.edu/

TUTORIALS AND FURTHER LINKS Connecting to the Internet and starting exploring the World Wide Web might be fascinating, exhausting, annoying or challenging, depending on access and skills. Access is not always possible to control in this part of the world, but a good start and ability count and the sooner we get the skills the better. For those new or not so new to the www I would warmly recommend searching among some of the following valuable tutorials. http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet - A totally revised (in Fall 1999) tutorial which should be included in everyone´s bookmark file.
