Study Schedule

Intro Webquests Building
Language Schedule Resources
This website has been developed for free access but actual participants will be company people.  Therefore this study schedule is mainly addressed to those enrolled,  but anyone is welcome to follow its guidelines and also suggest improvements.

Our initial steps  will,  naturally,   be taken face to face and on that occasion this proposed  study schedule will be talked and  agreed or modified.      It is expected that after a decision has been taken everyone will honor it.   I am especially keen on this issue,  considering  this new mode will be an absolute challenge for a very busy group of people  and that similar face to face attempts in the past were not entirely  successful.  It is true that times have changed  and an acceptable command of English has now  become imperative  at almost all levels and walks of life,  but if we do not admit that a paradigm shift in learning is also needed we will be denying the possibility of success of this course at the very starting point.  Remember our motto: a  will to learn,  share, communicate.

Participants are  invited  to become well familiar with  main features of the course contents,  and  accept its philosophy of learning and sharing.

The following is my testing ground proposal of a study schedule covering a  period of 4 months,  starting August through November.

Week

1

Objective: Reading contents and becoming familiar with the course, explore through and  examine webquests initial steps. (Webquests and Building Webquest)

2

Work through the Language Link. Among the miscellaneous links of language, grammar, style, pronunciation and other suggestions on usage provided,  choose one or several which  most suit your needs and likes. Send  comments to the Forum about the reason of your choice and how  you plan to include entries in your own study schedule.  Analysis and plan should be very clearly stated as progress  will be  analyzed, tested  and discussed periodically  in our f2f meetings.

3, 4

Starting a closer and deeper analysis of  webquests  - View Bernie Dodge´s and  Kathy Schrock´s sites  and also the NY Times Learning Net.  Compare them and send comments to the Forum.   Everyone should participate.  You will be free to choose any other similar site as  2nd option. Please  send  comments to the Forum on both alternatives.    First option will remain this  Study Schedule, but we will be flexible. If any other appropriate site is located we will be modifying our own site and course accordingly if we are all one in our decision, although discussions  on this other possibility will not be held before this 4 months testing period has been accomplished.

5,6 Webquests - a general view and analysis of particular webquests and a close look at   Destination Australia and Where in the World, as they contain useful information for building our  site. Take the time to review your language plans and give special attention to links on phonetics.  Build your own brief plan on language and phonetics, pronunciation, intonation,  and send comments to the Forum.  Grammar will  be tested and participants are encouraged to search for additional sites on pronunciation and voice on line.

7 Webquests 2nd step.  Analyze other USQ webquests. Compare and send comments to the Forum.  You have by now become quite familiar with webquests and are invited to use the rubric provided if you wish to complete comments.

8,9,10

We´ll be starting with our own joint webquest. Destination Argentina. Each one will be working on his her own as a first step, following  instructions and template provided. Build your own  version and once finished mail it to the Forum for discussions. You will find plenty of links under Resources.  Each participant should receive every other participant´s version and make comments to the Forum.  Again you are invited to use the rubric provided.   Extracting the best information, text, drawings, photographs and additional links collected we will build our joint webquest called Destination Argentina and send it to the Webquest page for including it among their links (hope to be accepted!).

11 Resulting from a close analysis of the work done,  this week will be a refreshing language period and webquests will be analyzed from  the language point and talks held  about  biggest constrains found.  This will be a grammar immersion and pronunciation refreshing week.

12 A testing whole week. Each one to work on his her own on quizzes provided in Resources links. Each one to choose those applying to his her own needs, but communicating decision (on Monday) to the Forum.  Our own course specific quizzes (Hot Patatoe) will be added to complement those on line.

13, 14 Job specific webquests. Each participant in his her own field   This part of our course will obviously have limited access for matters of company confidentiality, (copies will be provided to the Board), and these webquests will not be published  There will be a face to face meeting  on Monday of week 13 to clarify any doubts.

15   Each participant to read, analyse and comment on other webquests (not his her own).

16 Evaluation. Face to face discussions, rights and wrongs of the course, improvements and plans for the future.
