Webquests |
Comments |
What are webquests? In the spring of 1995 Bernie Dodge and Tom March developed and drafted a format for web-based lessons and defined a WebQuest as...." an inquiry oriented activity in which some or all of the information that learners interact with comes from resources on the internet..." Since then much has been done, discovered adapted and adopted, everywhere. (Links see below) |
You are invited to discover the richness of webquests and find out by yourself how teachers and learners have benefited from the internet and its resources |
There are two outstanding guides for learners of English. One is Kathy Schrock´s challenging and resourceful site for teachers, students and parents, where you´ll find samples of webquests, explanations, educational articles, links and tutorials, templates and lots of other useful info for learning and sharing. The other is The NY Times Learning Network. Both are highly recommended and will be extensively used and referenced. |
Discover Kathy´s educational resources and the variety of a categorized list of sites updated daily. Browse The NY Times Learning Network, the Daily Lesson Plan and the multiple connections available

Jerry Maroulis is USQ´s 2000s1 tutor for Unit 81534 and under his guidance some good webquests have been developed and they are free to share. Destination Australia is an example of how small the world has become (the positive side of globalization).
|
Live and recent examples of webquests will introduce you to building our own. Destination Australia was built by the Tucanos, two students studying with the USQ, one living in New Zealand and one in Argentina. |
Participants in the same group have developed other webquests. I recommend you to have a close look and start thinking how to build your own webquest.
|
Webquests are varied as are people´s interests. Have a close look at these and enjoy the links offered (Unit 81534 below). |
After you have analyzed resources recommended below you will have read, seen and researched not only lots of webquests but also a great diversity of valuable material . Creation, invention, experience will now amalgamate to build our own webquest, Destination Argentina, following principles and guidelines given, but freely adapting them according to participants interests and needs. The suggestion is to follow Destination Australia and Where in the World, but innovative ideas are welcome. . |
Our proposal of Destination Argentina will be addressed to businessmen or travelers wishing to visit Argentina for the first time. See Introduction and Task. Some resources covering Destination Australia are indicated below, others will be provided during the course. |
Time to start building real webquests: Closely analyze Building Webquests, links suggested and instructions given. Good luck.
